What could make a man cheat on his fiancee, drive his mother to tears and ditch a good job?
One woman – Carmen! She’s the gypsy seductress who loves them and leaves them…
tossing egos and hearts in the dust. To the tune of some of the most memorable music ever composed (the Toreador Song, the Habanera, and more!) her story unfolds in the sultry Spanish sun: Corporal Don Jose arrests Carmen for knifing another cigarette girl – but he’s the emotional prisoner! So how can he possibly let her live when she dumps him for a famous matador? We found out why this is the most popular opera in the world! We departed the Highcrest Centre parking lot at 9:00 am. We had options for lunch… drop off on Michigan Ave… or the Loop… or we could go right to the Lyric Opera house and enjoy an hour lecture on the background of this epic opera. We went straight to the Lyric, stopped close by at a French Cafe for a bite to eat then over for an hour lecture. The opera lasted 3 1/2 hours… seemed much shorter than that. I’ve been to one opera before this experience and recommend, if you’re new at this scene, Carmen is a great one to start with! Our driver was parked exactley where he said he would be to pick us up after the opera and we relaxed, stress free on our ride home. Couldn’t have been easier. You’ve got to get the Canterbury Connection… all the best shows, including comfy, mindless transportation, do yourself a favor and give Canterbury a try! See our ”Carmen” Trip Itinerary Below… |
